The track is incredibly cinematic from the very start, with soaring synths leading into a rather ’80s and new wave sounding tune. With direct vocals, this is going to be a track you are going to be deep into well before the first minute…. a cinematic London synth-pop track blending 80s nostalgia, emotive vocals, and spoken-word charm. The mixture of those organic piano tones and the shimmering synths, for me, worked a treat and was all offset by his emotive vocal tones. It is one I really enjoyed from the first play. Even in my initial notes, I put down how…
Temper Lake’s “How to Write a Lovesong” is an intimate dream-pop release from Tallinn, Estonia. The tender new song is lifted off their latest EP titled “Private Little Cravings” and is the standout track of the release too…. acinematic dream-pop ballad from Estonia blending piano, emotion, and a soaring final crescendo. It is very piano-driven, with some incredibly emotive vocals. If you will, think of the band Embrace from the early 2000s. It reminded me a lot of their work. It’s powerful, captivating, and simplistic in nature, but is cinematically stunning too.Be sure to keep an ear out for those stunning…
Grace Ferguson’s “Haunted” is a deeply reflective indie-pop release from New York City, United States. The track has this blend of alt-pop with some nostalgic synth sounds that creates a warm energy…. a dreamy, emotionally rich indie-pop track blending nostalgic synths, soft vocals, and rising-star energy. It’s also dreamy in all the right ways, with her vocals almost caressing your ears throughout the runtime. If you like the emotional sounds related to the likes of Phoebe Bridgers and the stunning highs of Kacey Musgraves, then this release is going to win your heart (and ears). It’s a bold statement that is…

Elsewhere, Million Ways injects some much-needed momentum into the middle stretch, its driving rhythm and soaring chorus providing one of the album’s most immediate hooks. Tidal Wave then washes over everything with layers of textured guitars and thumping drums, to give the record a real sense of urgency. The closing duo is where Seahaven save some of their best work, though. Wedding Bells, carries a sense of emotional clarity that cuts through the record’s hazier moments, before Companion provides a fitting send-off with it’s pulsating tones. Patient and reflective, it feels like the end of a long conversation with an…
A few years ago, at a local gig to see the Pennsylvania band The Stray Birds, the crowd was overall polite and receptive to the music; however, let us just say they needed to warm up. The band led by the wonderful Maya de Vitry launched into a version of Down In The Willow Garden. A traditional Appalachian murder ballad, also known as Rose Connelly. The crowd absolutely loved it, and band member Oliver Craven commented that at last they had found the audience’s level. Why are murder ballads so fascinating that onlookers will sit up and notice? Paul Slade…
Photo by Raph PHThe tribute album seems to have leapt in popularity in recent times. The tribute element can take numerous forms: celebrating, honouring an influential artist, raising the profile of an artist, raising money for good causes (including the artist concerned if, for example, they have become unable to work through illness), or because it’s a ‘fun’ thing to do. In some cases, the rationale is not immediately apparent; think Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird’s 2024 release, Cunningham Bird, which is a cover of the 1973 LP by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, Buckingham Nicks; or the 2015 cover…

Electric Callboy: We have complete freedom. We wake up in the morning and mix a boyband song with a deathcore ending
Fun. It’s a word that crops up a lot. It’s a word the band – completed by lead guitarist Daniel Haniß, bassist Daniel Klossek, guitarist Pascal Schillo and, on this tour, Sum 41’s Frank Zummo behind the kit – really endeavour to bring to life onstage. They succeed. It’s not just a concert. It’s a spectacle. For almost two hours, they treat each song they play – and there are 20 of them – like its own mini universe. Each one has its own unique visual style thanks to incredibly detailed, all-consuming projections. There are costume changes, pyrotechnics, explosions of…
