In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we would like to introduce you to upcoming duo Outsideness and their brand new album titled … From What?.
Outsideness, the duo made up of Freidrich$ and Azalias, might have started as a casual idea, but their new album …From What? proves it was never destined to stay small. Out now, the project feels like the sound of two creative forces colliding in real time: unpredictable, emotional, and strangely addictive.
The origin story is almost too simple. Azalias suggested doing a song together. Freidrich$ raised the stakes with a single question: “what about an album?” That spontaneous exchange became the foundation for Outsideness; not a “group” in the traditional sense, but a shared space where experimentation turns into identity.
The album’s first spark, “Remedy,” sets the tone immediately: off-kilter, yearning R&B that feels slightly warped around the edges, like it’s melting in your hands. From there, Outsideness refuses to stay in one place. “Pretend” leans into movement and rhythm, a dance-infused moment where Azalias glides effortlessly, proving she doesn’t need to “try” to shine, she simply does.
That creative tension becomes the album’s magic. On “Crazy,” what began as one idea gets twisted into something entirely new, showcasing Azalias’ instinct for transformation. And on “Different,” Outsideness delivers a rare modern ballad that doesn’t hide behind irony; it embraces sincerity head-on, unapologetically human.
Then comes “Poltergeist,” the track that feels like a turning point. After it, …From What? stops sounding like an experiment and starts sounding like a statement.
Highlights continue with “Lovers,” which flirts with pop familiarity while carrying a shadow beneath its brightness. “Thank U” cleverly pulls from the emotional DNA of Dido, flipping something recognizable into a new emotional language. “Country” burns with symbolism and longing, while “Touch Me” is pure sonic force, especially with a standout feature from Lil Zay-Zay.
By the time “Cold World” and closing track “Ends” arrive, the album feels less like a debut and more like the beginning of something inevitable. …From What? is the sound of a frame being built and shattered until it becomes art. Outsideness has arrived, and Azalias, in particular, won’t stay underground for long.
