AURA is gearing up for the digital release of Hungry, a tense new survival shocker from British filmmaker James Nunn (Wildcat, One Shot). The feature is set to land on video-on-demand services tomorrow, Tuesday, June 23.

Nunn directs from his own original screenplay. Bringing the high-stakes script to life is an ensemble cast featuring Madison Davenport (“Sharp Objects”), Joaquim de Almeida (Road House, Fast X), Olivia Bernstone (“Mood”), Tracey Bonner (“Sweet Magnolias”,The Exorcism), Michel Curiel (“Sistas”, “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”), Jim Meskimen (Apollo 13), Samantha Coughlan (Arcadian), and River Codack (Heretic).

The plot follows a group of thrill-seeking tourists on a riverboat tour through the treacherous Louisiana swamplands. Lured off the beaten path by the promise of an exclusive adventure, they soon find themselves fighting for survival against a ravenous hippopotamus lurking beneath the bayou’s murky waters as they face an impossible battle with one of nature’s deadliest predators.

To celebrate tomorrow’s release, CinemaChords sat down with writer-director James Nunn and cast members Madison Davenport and Jim Meskimen to reflect on the film’s surprisingly bleak, suspenseful atmosphere and serious tone. Nunn addresses whether he approached the project similarly to his 2012 film Tower Block (co-directed with David Beton), which uses a comparable framework where characters are fascinatingly developed while trapped by a mostly concealed threat. The trio also open up about how much structural freedom was granted on set, particularly given Meskimen’s background as an improviser and impersonator, while Davenport reveals her attraction to this script that focused on authentic, believable characters rather than standard creature-gone-wild fodder.

Hungry is available on VOD from June 23, 2026.
