Horror fans in North Wales are in for a treat this summer as the Rhyller Thriller returns to Rhyl from 31st July to 2nd August 2026, promising three days packed with chilling cinema, special guests, and a celebration of independent filmmaking.

Now in its fourth year, the festival has steadily built a name for itself as one of the UK’s most exciting grassroots horror events, blending the feel of a film festival with the buzz of a horror convention.

A Horror Festival with a Difference

Taking place at the Rhyl Little Theatre, Rhyller Thriller offers a unique viewing experience. Films are screened on a custom 9ft screen inside an atmospheric auditorium—perfectly setting the tone for a weekend of scares, suspense, and cinematic creativity.

The 2026 event, titled “Fear The Old Ways,” looks set to be the biggest edition yet, expanding across three days and showcasing a wide variety of horror and genre films. Classic horror movies include: Hellraiser II (with a Q&A with Geoff Portass), Pet Sematary, and so much more.

    What Can Audiences Expect?

Rhyller Thriller is all about celebrating the full spectrum of horror, so audiences can expect:

    • Independent feature films and short films
    • Cult favourites and genre classics
    • A mix of horror styles—from slashers and supernatural tales to sci-fi and psychological thrillers

What makes the festival stand out is its strong focus on filmmakers. Many screenings are followed by Q&A sessions, giving audiences the chance to hear directly from the creators behind the films—something you don’t often get at larger festivals.

More Than Just a Film Festival

It’s not just about what’s on screen either. Rhyller Thriller creates a full experience for attendees, including:

    • A fringe market with horror-themed stalls, artwork, and collectables
    • Special guests from the world of film
    • A welcoming, community-driven atmosphere
    • Food, drinks, and plenty of opportunities to meet fellow horror fans

Whether you’re there for a single screening or the whole weekend, there’s always something happening.

Supporting Indie Film and the Local Scene

One of the key strengths of Rhyller Thriller is its passion for independent cinema. The festival gives a platform to emerging filmmakers from across the UK and beyond, while also bringing fresh energy into Rhyl’s growing events scene.

Events like this not only highlight creative talent but also help shine a spotlight on North Wales as a destination for film and culture.

Why You Should Check It Out

If you enjoy horror or are simply looking for a unique summer activity, Rhyller Thriller is definitely worth a visit. With its combination of films, special guests, and a strong sense of community, it is rapidly becoming a must-attend event on the genre’s calendar.

So, if you’re ready for a weekend of scares, creativity, and all things horror, make sure to head to Rhyl at the end of July.
