Sonedo’s latest project From Here On Out arrives with the kind of confidence and originality that immediately sets it apart. From the opening moments, the album pulls listeners into a world built on rich instrumentation, sharp production, and an unmistakable sense of creativity. Rather than chasing trends, Sonedo crafts a sound that feels natural and fully realised, balancing emotional depth with moments of pure energy and experimentation. It’s the type of record that rewards repeat listens, revealing new textures and details each time while proving that Sonedo is an artist with a clear vision.

Originally from Osaka, Japan, Sonedo is now based in Glasgow, where he honed his craft. Working as a producer, pianist, and bandleader, he has developed a forward-thinking sound shaped by a wide spectrum of influences. His music reflects the impact of hip-hop innovators such as A Tribe Called Quest, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar, while also drawing from jazz legends like Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, as well as the contemporary UK jazz scene, including artists like Alfa Mist, Yussef Dayes, and Venna.

The instrumentation is a real highlight of the record, piano leads much of the sound, carrying the harmony with expressive, well-shaped lines. Bass and drums lock in tightly underneath, creating grooves that shift between laid-back jazz and sharper, beat-driven energy. Subtle synths and textures are used to add atmosphere without overwhelming the core sound. Overall, the instrumentation feels balanced, rich, and carefully put together, giving the album both depth and a strong sense of flow.

The guest appearances across Sonedo’s new album add a wide range of styles and personalities without ever taking focus away from the project’s core identity. Priya contributes an emotionally charged singing performance that adds depth and atmosphere to the record. While the rap features injects a more dynamic and expressive edge. Together, the features feel carefully chosen, each artist enhancing the album’s mood and versatility while helping Sonedo create a project that feels unique from start to finish.

With From Here On Out, Sonedo delivers a standout project that strengthens his place within the new wave of UK jazz and stands at the forefront in Scotland. The album feels both personal and expansive, bringing together jazz’s improvisational roots with the energy of UK rap, drill and trap music. The result is a confident, forward-facing body of work that captures his growth as an artist and highlights his role in pushing the genre into new territory.
