    All Formats

    Initially digitally from 27th April
    Vinyl/CD coming soon

The long anticipated debut release from Avid Fan is finally here. The EP, Run Like Rosie being a testament to the band’s fierce DIY ethos.

Formed in late 2024, the trio is a “cross-pollination” of Manchester musical pedigree. The band is fronted by Stephen Wilson (The Mighty Wah! Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds) and anchored by the powerhouse drumming of Beau Towsey. Completing the line-up is Dawn Acton on bass; while many will recognise her as a foundational figure in British television history—having originated the role of the rebellious Tracy Barlow on Coronation Street —Acton has seamlessly traded the cobbles for a driving, melodic bass style that defines the Avid Fan sound.

Since formation Avid Fan have been a regular feature on the local circuit, a growing formidable live force. The heavy basslines and haunting narratives picking up a loyal following along the way. Now, emerging from the creative grit of East Manchester’s Lab Studios, they’ve delivered their self-produced EP, which marries the city’s underground DJ DNA with a cinematic obsession for cult horror. As Wilson explains, ‘Avid Fan isn’t just a band; it’s a sonic collision of our shared history in the Manchester scene and our love for the darker corners of cinema.’

Run Like Rosie, opens proceedings, a masterclass in tension, blending Acton’s heavy, melodic basslines with Wilson’s seasoned song writing – a high-stakes anthem evocative of a 1970s pulp thriller. Lightning follows, an atmospheric, electrifying number which leans into the trio’s background as DJs, driven by drummer Towsey’s club-ready energy. For those who have been unable to experience Avid Fan live, the final track on the EP, is Stubb, recorded at The Snug in Atherton late in 2025. The recording captured the band during their run of high-profile support slots for icons such as The Undertones, TV Smith, and Slaughter and the Dogs, which closed their year and brings the raw, unpolished energy of their live show into your home.

The band have a handful of live dates announced with more to come…

    30th April – Sanctuary, Burnley
    22 May – Strummercamp, Oldham
11th June – Picturedrome, Holmfirth (supporting Cast) Tickets

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
