Emerging from the shadows of Sweden’s gothic rock scene, Baarhus is a fresh force rooted in the brooding energy of classic ’80s post-punk. Formed in 2024, the trio has been steadily building momentum with a string of singles leading up to their highly anticipated debut album, Songs under a darkened sky, which is set to arrive on 29th May.

The band’s sound is a dark fusion of electronic darkwave textures and heavy guitars, anchored by the deep, baritone delivery of vocalist Jimmy Storsleth. Their latest offering, “City of Fear,” serves as a stark exploration of an “Orwellian nightmare.” With ominously chugging guitars and synth flourishes reminiscent of The Sisters of Mercy, the track builds to a seismic chorus that captures the dread of modern political tensions and personal alienation.

Accompanying the single is a moody, black-and-white music video that leans into a cold, brutalist aesthetic. The visuals reflect the song’s themes of a society consumed by hypocrisy and paranoia, where the city itself becomes a symbol of illuminated darkness. This marks the fourth single from the upcoming record, following “Late Is the Hour,” “When You Lied,” and “The Sirens Yell.”

Songs under a darkened sky will be available digitally, on CD, and as a limited edition vinyl. For fans of Bauhaus or London After Midnight, this is a release you won’t want to miss. “City of Fear” is streaming now on all major platforms, and you can watch the full video on YouTube (or scroll down a little bit!).
