A searing display of grief through ten bare songs. How we all cope with grief is complex and individual, though the ability of energising one’s sadness through music is a powerful and positive one. Belfast’s Joshua Burnside has been gaining a solid and highly respected reputation for beautiful, acoustic sound experiments, cleverly mixing folk/americana sounds with more challenging music.Through two albums previously and an array of EP’s he’s built a loyal fanbase. For his latest album, he’s gone back to his core musical roots with a collection of acoustic songs dealing with the grief he encountered following the death of his…

Sheffield band’s new album is one of grit and struggle, with flashes of cynical humour, performed on a musically tight backdrop.IV is an album which deals with themes of being stuck, nostalgia, regret and also provides a wry social commentary. Opener, Skin in the Game, deals with someone who is on the edge and is scared to move on, as he has too much to lose. “Maybe I could change but I don’t know where to start” captures that sense of ambiguity about change, and there’s desperation in the line, “Can we forgive and forget / Or is it Russian…
Those in the know can’t understand why Geraint Watkins isn’t a bigger solo music star. The Welsh piano and accordion wizard is one of the best UK session and touring musicians, having played with the likes of Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Andy Fairweather Low, Bill Wyman, Eric Clapton, Tom Jones, Paul McCartney, Mark Knopfler, Carl Perkins, John Martyn, and many more. As a solo artist, he has released occasional solo albums over the years, and for a while, he was in the UK’s best Cajun band, the Balham Alligators. He made the trip from his native South Wales…
You can tell that Big Thief are feeling good about their four-night residency at Brixton Academy when they open with a delicate new song, “What I Only Dream Of”. It’s a beautiful country number played on acoustic guitar by Adrianne Lenker, accompanied on synth by opening act Dylan Meek, brother of Big Thief guitarist Buck. Lenker giggles with sheer musical joy as Meek takes a solo, and it’s as if the two of them are alone in a rehearsal room rather than performing in front of 5,000 people. But she knows she’s being watched. “Strangers’ eyes bring me to life,”…

Both artists take a measured approach, focusing less on dramatics and more on consistency, showing up, staying grounded, and trusting…
Recently nominated for the Edison Prize, Joya Mooi returns with All The Things, a deeply personal EP that explores the emotional contradictions of jealousy, grief, security and motherhood.Where previous project Open Hearts looked outward, this new release turns inward. Drawing largely from her own experiences, Joya uses these songs to process a transformative year marked by loss, change and emotional growth. The title track sets the tone with warm basslines, soft guitar textures and understated production that keeps her intimate vocals front and centre. Elsewhere, “Technicolour” unpacks envy through a more compassionate lens, while “Pay Day” reflects on shifting ideas of…
Italian producer and multi instrumentalist Alsogood (Francesco Lo Giudice) returns with 1000 Smiles, a concise yet deeply expressive new album arriving April 24 via Island Records on both vinyl and digital.Clocking in at just 26 minutes, the record feels intentional and tightly composed, blending hip hop structure with the fluidity and warmth of contemporary jazz.
