Authorities in the Bahamas have taken a 59-year-old American man into custody as the search continues for his missing wife, Lynette Hooker, who vanished during a late-night boat trip near Elbow Cay. The man, identified by his attorney as Brian Hooker, was arrested Wednesday by the Royal Bahamas Police Force. His lawyer, Terrel A. Butler, said Hooker “categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing” and has been cooperating with investigators. Hooker initially told police that the couple had gone out Saturday night in a small dinghy when his wife, 55, fell overboard while holding the boat’s keys. According to his account,…

A partial collapse at a parking garage under construction in Philadelphia has left one person dead and two others still missing, as emergency crews continue a difficult and time-sensitive search operation. According to city officials, the collapse began when a precast concrete roof section gave way while being installed. “After placement, a precast roof segment…

The 90th edition of the Masters Tournament got underway Thursday morning under clear skies at Augusta National Golf Club, beginning with one of golf’s most cherished traditions. Honorary starters Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tom Watson — winners of a combined 11 green jackets — stepped onto the first tee to open the year’s first major. The ceremony, a custom dating back to 1963, once again set the tone for the tournament. Between them, the three Hall of Famers boast 35 major championships, with Nicklaus alone accounting for 18 — including a record six Masters titles. Player, 90, got things…

We recently headed to Cineworld for a Secret Screaming, which turned out to be the new movie Undertone. A podcast host (Nina Kiri) covering spooky content moves in to care for her dying mother. When sent recordings of a pregnant couple’s paranormal encounters, she discovers their story parallels hers, each tape pushing her toward madness—the revolutionary, immersive soundscape horror from iconic studio A24. Undertone was one of those movies that I wasn’t really sure about. I had heard a lot about its use of sound to scare the viewer, but could it really be that scary? I’ve seen the taglines…

While panto season may be behind us, the Southend Theatre Scene offered the perfect excuse to jump back into the action with a brand-new production of Robin Hood at the Palace Theatre in Southend. Whilst I am more than familiar with the story of Robin Hood through its various adaptations on screen, I had never experienced it as a stage production. So, I was keen to see how KD Theatre Production Ltd, in association with Harlow Playhouse, would bring the story to life as a panto. Thankfully, I can say they did not disappoint. The show jumps straight into the…

Some films fail because they have nothing to say. Outcome is more frustrating than that. It has a target, a mood, a star, and a premise with real venom in it. What it lacks is the nerve to follow through. That is the problem from the start. Jonah Hill has built this film around a Hollywood ecosystem that should be easy to cut open: fame as insulation, scandal as currency, apology as performance, image management as a full-time religion. There is a good movie in there somewhere. Probably a nasty one. Probably a funny one too. Outcome never quite becomes…

Well that’s it from us for this week. If you haven’t got your tickets yet for our 25 year knees up featuring Chuck Prophet, Steve Wynn and a whole load more americana, you can pick them up from this link – we’d love to see you. In the meantime we leave you dear reader with a song which I only discovered this morning reading Alexis Petridis’ review of the new self-titled album by Cameron Picton’s new project My New Band Believe, out on Rough Trade today – but it referenced a track from the final album by British art-rockers Black…

Few bands can genuinely say they changed the face of music. Truth be told, Converge probably wouldn’t make such a ballsy claim either – these metallic hardcore trailblazers are too modest and self-reflective for chest-beating braggadocio.Yet this Massachusetts band have undeniably altered sonic extremity as we know it. Their 35-year-plus career has seen them become a truly singular entity, splicing speed, fury and face-clawing riffing with wounded-pterodactyl vocals, poetic lyrics and a knack for expansive experimentation.“It’s a natural purging of emotion,” is how frontman Jacob Bannon sums it all up. “I scream at the fucking world and I try to…

Alabama Shakes have shared a new track, “American Dream”, which you can hear below. “It’s a snapshot of what we’re living through in 2026,” says Brittany Howard. “I look around and wonder how we got to a place where there’s so much strain and so little support. I mean, it shouldn’t be impossible to take off work so you can bring your child to the doctor — that’s actually insane. My hope is that one day people will hear this song and say, ‘Yeah, shit was crazy back then, but we made it through.’” “American Dream” follows “Another Life“, which…

“Woman’s career is not taken seriously,” Yoko Ono told writer Joy Press in the mid-’90s, “so no-one’s keeping an archive for you.” The subsequent reappraisals of Ono’s body of work over the decades have been informed by many things – Beatles adjacency, feminist critique, art historical reimaginings, experimental film explorations – but shadowing it all has been a sense that we’re never quite getting the full picture of all Ono has achieved over her seven-decade career in art, music, film and writing. That Season Of Glass is often read as her best album tells us much about how context informs…

His work is inherently experimental and has seen him perform everywhere from the Tate Britain to a disused water tank in Lewisham. He’s the kind of artist who lets the music lead him where…

Canadian pop standout Preston Pablo returns with “Selfish,” a sleek, bass driven single that signals a confident new chapter. Released via EMI Records, 31 East and Universal Canada. The track pairs his smooth vocals with a stripped back, intentional production where every detail hits with precision. At its core, “Selfish” is all about confidence and desire. It captures that ‘main character energy’ mindset, where instinct takes over and focus locks in on what you want. The result is a moody, self assured record that feels effortless but is carefully crafted beneath the surface. The song is produced by Keith “Ten4” Sorrells, known…
