Well that’s it for this week. Don’t forget to get your tickets for our 25 year anniversary event if you haven’t yet – all the details are here. It’d be remiss of us to sign off for the week without mentioning the great Bob Harris who yesterday announced his retirement from the BBC after 56 years due to health issues. Bob has been a massive champion of americana over the decades, being instrumental in the formation of the UK arm of the Americana Music Association (AMA) and for many years his Saturday night show was the only place you could regularly hear the genre on national radio. He has topped our readers’ poll best radio show category year in year out and it’s clear that there’s probably no single individual who has done more for the genre in this country. As he told us when he won (as always!) in December, “I am absolutely thrilled to hear this news. Thank you to everyone who has voted for the show. I love doing it so much and it’s fantastic to know my work is appreciated.” I hope it’s not presumptuous for me to say that I can speak for all of us here at AUK, both staff and readers, in sending you a massive thank you, Bob, for everything you’ve done, along with all our love, best wishes and a speedy recovery through your current health travails.
Take care, don’t forget Palestineand keep fighting those fascists. See you next week.
