Few cinematic universes have expanded as successfully beyond the big screen as Star Wars, and The Mandalorian and Grogu has opened up the world of Star Wars even more. What began as a groundbreaking Disney+ series quickly became a fan favourite, introducing audiences to the stoic bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his adorable Force-sensitive companion, Grogu. Now, their adventures leap streaming to the biggest screen possible with The Mandalorian and Grogu in IMAX.
The movie features larger-scale action, breathtaking visuals, and the emotional bond that made the series such a success. This latest chapter delivers a true Star Wars movie for fans like myself who were introduced to the franchise back in the 70s.
But does The Mandalorian and Grogu justify its transition to cinemas, and does the IMAX experience enhance the journey through a galaxy far, far away? Here’s what I thought.
I had been very excited to see The Mandalorian and Grogu in IMAX, and as a fan of the Disney+ series, I couldn’t wait to see how the film played out compared to the series, and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. The film is nonstop action, and it really feels very Star Wars-y, which was perfect for me. I’ve not enjoyed a new Star Wars film this much since Rogue One. Throughout the film, I could feel the smile on my face getting bigger.

Set after the events of the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian and Grogu follows the continuing adventures of the galaxy’s most unlikely duo as they embark on a brand-new mission across the Star Wars universe. With Din Djarin (Pascal) adapting to life beyond his bounty hunter roots and Grogu continuing to develop his connection to the Force, the pair find themselves drawn into a dangerous conflict that threatens more than just their own future.
As familiar faces and new allies cross their path, Din and Grogu must navigate hostile worlds, powerful enemies, and unexpected challenges. Blending action, humour, and heart, the film expands the story fans have followed on the small screen while delivering a larger-scale adventure designed for the cinematic experience.
If you are a fan of the Star Wars franchise, then you will no doubt spot some of the Easter Eggs throughout the film. Look out for a nod to the game that Chewie and R2D2 play on the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars (1977); it’s a great touch, and it certainly adds a wonderful touch to the film.
Those of you who have followed the films, TV shows and books, etc., will love all the special touches that are in The Mandalorian and Grogu, and I guarantee that you too will have a big smile on your face when you spot things.

I have to say that I loved Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, and I would love to see her character more in future Star Wars movies and TV Shows.
The Mandalorian and Grogu in IMAX
I’m not going to go into the film much more, as it’s so easy to drop some spoilers, so I’ll mention the IMAX format that I saw the film in.
When I saw that The Mandalorian and Grogu was “Filmed for IMAX“, I knew that for me this was the only way to see the film on the big screen, and I wasn’t disappointed. The immersive sound is absolutely stunning. Right from the start of the film you get an amazing sound mix that takes you into the world of Star Wars, and it’s not just the sound that adds to the journey and experience, it’s also the picture.

The Mandalorian and Grogu in IMAX looks stunning, with the crystal clear images and a precise level of noise and grain that make the film look pristine. The details in the film bring it to life. I’m so glad that I opted to see the film in the IMAX format as it was the perfect way to watch it, in my point of view.
