Nobody told Lee Cronin that when you slap a famous monster’s name on your film, you’re supposed to actually make a film about that monster. Or maybe someone did tell him, and he just ignored it. Either way, The Mummy this is not — at least not in any sense that Boris Karloff, Brendan Fraser, or even Tom Cruise would recognise. Cronin took one of Universal’s most iconic creatures, shoved it in a Cairo back alley, nicked the bandages, and quietly made something else entirely. Which is either bold filmmaking or shameless franchise-jacking, depending on your mood walking in. Photo:…

Brother’s All Things Considered album release has been a slow burn since the project’s establishment in 2024. The band has given fans a taste of the record with single drops, music videos, and styled photoshoots. These are resilient, young rockers who have shown countless appreciation for their fanbase, even going so far as to name themselves “Brother” in recognition of their unity. The trio – Chandler Malin, Cody Short, and Devrin Diesz – has a clean-cut sound, influenced by American and British rock and filtered through their Southern roots. Brother aimed for a cohesive, narrative-style album in All Things Considered, where each track…

Well, this is new. This Northampton-based band who formed in 2023 are here with their debut EP, and straight away I can hear this has many influences from the get-go! Here I can hear punk, rock, and thrash influences from the likes of “No Time”.Then in comes “Out of Reach”, the title track, which has a dirty, sweaty feel to it. You can imagine nodding your head along in a tiny gig packed to the rafters enjoying the buzz and grooves, with the band up close and personal enjoying their music and the energy from the crowd.“Alien” for me has…
The single follows “Bird Flu,” which quietly made noise across major outlets and hinted at the sonic shift underway. Together, the two releases suggest that 6LACK isn’t just refining his sound, he’s expanding it. The moody alternative R&B palette that defined his earlier work is still there, but now it’s more fluid, blending soulful textures, stripped back production, and sharper storytelling.Love Is The New Gangsta looks set to be one of his most personal projects to date. Framed around self-exploration and radical honesty, the album digs into identity, growth, fatherhood, and the emotional weight that comes with all three. At…

Originally published in Uncut Take 339 (June 2025 issue)… As John Densmore scrutinises the list of Doors songs Uncut has asked him to talk about to mark the band’s 60th anniversary, the drummer smiles at the variety of music they produced in such a short time. “The Doors were an American melting pot,” he says. “Ray Manzarek had blues and classical, Robby Krieger was flamenco, I brought the jazz; then we had Jim’s literary and cinematic approach. We made a delicious gumbo from all these diverse ingredients.” Their music is indeed a rich stew, from baroque pop to heavy rock…
First published in Uncut Take 222 (November 2015 issue…) In Spring 1972 – a year after Jim Morrison’s death – the remaining members of The Doors toured Europe. While in England, they had shows in Newcastle, Birmingham and Guildford as well as a session for The Old Grey Whistle Test. To promote their new album, Other Voices, and a compilation, Weird Scenes From The Goldmine, they took to the streets of London in a specially decorated double-decker bus. But there was another agenda to their visit: they were hunting for a singer to replace Morrison. Paul Rodgers revealed to Uncut…
First previewed at his sold out headline show at Night Tales Loft in London, ‘My Madonna’ has already been quietly building anticipation. It’s a love story at its core, but not a simple one. As Jeer puts it, the track explores that obsessive, almost inescapable version of love, the idealised figure we create in our heads, even when we know better. That tension plays out across the song’s smooth melodies and dance heavy production, giving it both emotional pull and undeniable replay value. It’s the kind of track that feels tailor made for summer, equal parts intimate and euphoric.Jeer’s rise has…
Amsterdam four piece RADIOHOP continue to blur the lines between jazz, hip hop, and improvisation with their latest single, “Spooky Town.” It’s the fourth preview of their upcoming album Hard to Handle, and it lands with intent.Originally described by the band as a “beat tape,” the 12 track project goes beyond that. Hard to Handle is raw, loud, and unfiltered, built on groove, texture, and instinct rather than polish. It arrives digitally, but feels made for vinyl, where its weight and grit hit hardest. After relocating to Amsterdam around 2020 to study jazz, the group quickly became part of the city’s…
Former Virginia lieutenant governor Justin Fairfax fatally shot his wife, Cerina Fairfax, before taking his own life at their home in Annandale, Virginia, according to authorities. Police say the couple’s teenage children were inside the house when the violence unfolded shortly after midnight on Thursday. Their son called 911, initially believing his mother had been stabbed. Responding officers instead discovered evidence of a shooting, including shell casings near Cerina Fairfax’s body in the basement. Justin Fairfax was later found upstairs in a bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said the sequence of events appeared…
